Build and Style - A Brunswick Beauty Brought to Life

It’s often said that a renovation is a marathon, not a sprint. There are plans to draw, walls to move, finishes to select — and by the time the last tile is laid, many homeowners find their energy (and budget) depleted. Styling often becomes an afterthought, despite being the final layer that transforms a house into a home. For DevelopHer Jacqui Midgley, however, this last step was never optional. To her, styling wasn’t just about furniture and accessories — it was about completing the story.

From classic to contemporary, Jacqui’s project began with a classic Californian Bungalow in Brunswick East. With the vision of Bryant Alsop Architects, the home was re-imagined into a contemporary masterpiece, balancing heritage charm with modern ease.

The design honours its origins while opening itself to light, space, and flow. A striking glass breezeway bridges the original bungalow with a bold new extension, while polished concrete floors, exposed beams, and warm timber accents bring an earthy yet refined energy. The kitchen gleams with stone benchtops and integrated appliances, while the bathroom offers a sanctuary-like calm with natural stone finishes.

It was already a home of architectural merit — but Jacqui knew it needed one final touch to feel truly complete.

Jacqui wanted her home to strike a balance: modern but warm, stylish yet comfortable. Through carefully layered textures, statement lighting, and timeless furniture choices, Cat ensured every room reflected both sophistication and soul.

With the home destined for the market, styling played an important dual role. It wasn’t only about creating a space Jacqui loved — it was about making it irresistible to potential buyers. Strategic choices highlighted architectural details, maximised the sense of space, and ensured the home photographed beautifully.

From the plush upholstery softening polished concrete to the curated art complementing exposed beams, every detail worked in harmony. The result? A home that was not just admired, but desired.
