Meet Jason Chongue, the self-confessed Plantfluencer whose plant-based lifestyle continues to inspire thousands of Australians both online and offline.
Step into Chongue’s Collingwood home, and it’s immediately clear where his heart lies. Calm, stylish, and effortlessly poised, he moves among 400 plants that fill every room, casting shadows and catching light like living art. It’s a space that feels alive, vibrant, and completely in tune with nature—though you’d be lucky to find a seat among the greenery.
Chongue is, first and foremost, an architect and interior designer. His love of plants naturally extended into his interiors, blending horticulture with architecture in a way that feels intuitive and elegant. This passion eventually blossomed into a massive social media following and led to the creation of The Plant Society, a collaboration with his partner Nathan Smith.
Based in Melbourne with a seedling store in Sydney, The Plant Society is more than a business—it’s a philosophy. Chongue approaches interiors through a lens that considers plants as fundamental design elements, shaping spaces with light, shadow, and ambience to evoke calm, balance, and beauty.
His mantra is simple but powerful: choose the plant for the space, not the space for the plant. By reading a room’s light, scale, and mood, you can curate greenery that thrives while enhancing the environment.
Chongue’s expertise has also translated into two beautifully designed books—The Plant Society and Green—which explore how to create indoor and outdoor oases. His work demonstrates that Australian life is a balance between functionality and space, and that plants are more than decoration—they are a tool to enrich everyday living.

For anyone looking to bring a touch of Chongue’s magic into their home, The Plant Society offers plants, workshops, and resources to help you elevate your space with greenery. Visit theplantsociety.com.au
